Do you ever have trouble thinking of outdoor relaxing activities? Here are some ideas for outdoor activities you can do when you want to be outdoors more but can’t because of time restraints or other factors.
Nice View, Wine and Unwind
For me I sit out on the patio and watch the sunset with a nice glass of wine, seems to relax me until I can get a proper camping trip in!
Walk in the Forest
I always loved that song by Brandi Carlile called “Have you Ever” I love how refreshing the lyrics are refreshing and contemplative.
“Have you ever wandered lonely through the woods?
And everything there feels just as it should
You’re part of the life there
You’re part of something good”
So go out and take a wonder-filled walk in the woods. For me I have boundaries in my life by not checking my phone first thing in the morning and in my business with keeping work at work, very important if you work with your family. But a good practice of relaxation is to take time at least once a week goes out in nature by yourself, unplugged and listen to the wind in the trees.
Treat Yourself
Just like a perfectly toasted s’ more hits the spot on a cool summer night, taking a short walk in the woods is the perfect way to start the weekday. And that’s exactly how I’ll spend this every morning this week, that’s my goal at least, just keeping moving and building exercise into my schedule.
Get creative with your campfire treats. I love thinking outside the box, combining fruit and chocolate of course… yes, I know, a green salad is better for me. And of course, if you need an easy way to roast some treats over the campfire check out our Rolla Roasters. Easy to use, easy to clean, and best of all we can help you end your search for sticks your next campfire gathering.
Treat yourself with a latte. This one was from a coffee shop in northern Idaho.
Go Camping Near Water
Sometimes camping is great out in the wilderness but there’s something that is so refreshing and relaxing about waking up hearing the sound of the river or the raging ocean waves. If you need ideas of where to camp check out this link to camping in Hawaii.
Take an adventure around your Hometown
Often times we spend a lot of time seeing the same things in the areas most familiar to us so every now and then its great to plan to explore new areas even if you’ve been driving by them on your route to work. Here on Oahu, this adventure day looks like going to a new beach we’ve never been to or trying out a new coffee shop. Here’s a shot of a hidden swimming place on Oahu only locals know about, even though I’ve lived here 10 years I had never gone until one of our random adventure days. We got a great swim in and it was much-needed stress relief during these times. Sometimes we can get so used to our routine that we forget to keep exploring.
Find a way to Laugh
Have you had a good laugh recently? This is my cousin and I had just gotten back from working in and living in Thailand for 2 years and we were going somewhere this was right after coffee was spilled all over me while we were attempting to take a selfie. So whether you play a funny game with your family, watch a comedy on Netflix, or just take a funny selfie safely of course… This can be such a refreshing way to relax and take care of your mental health.
Create Something
Do you ever wish you had more time to be creative? Maybe its writing something from a journal prompt, taking a photo of a flower, painting while sipping wine. For me, a very quick way to create some amazing art is flying my drone around beautiful areas on Oahu. I like to sometimes just make a point to appreciate the beauty around me in this way. It doesn’t take much extra time. In this example, just this was when I just got the phantom drone. Oahu is just breathtaking so it wasn’t much work… How do you get your creative juices flowing?

Enjoy time around the Campfire
Magical childhood summers by the lake and the campfire! This is a quick sneak peek to the upcoming final edit from a great summer fishing, road-tripping, and having s’mores around the campfire with family.
Take some time even if it’s just camping in the backyard enjoying a few s’mores with your family. For more ideas on how to do simple family activities or start a campfire safely check out our other article.
Climb up to a Viewpoint
Sometimes you just have to get some time in nature. This was taken at a really beautiful hike on the east side of Oahu. It only takes 15 minutes to hike up and see this view and another amazing view on the other side. What is your favorite mountain to climb?
